Tariy 2009: Preparations

Every year during the month of March I make my annual road trip through Peru inspecting the framework of what makes up Karikuy. I visit hotels and catch up with our guides and other workers to make sure everything is running smoothly. Now you may have read up on last years Tariy, in which I took the trip along with my cousin Michael. This year I will be traveling alone and will make sure to bring you a complete chronicle of the journey. The adventure begins this Monday as I travel to the north, my first stop a quick visit to Supe and the pyramids of Caral.

My Tariy 2009 route throughout Peru

This year I will be visiting Huaraz and the northern beaches at Mancora and Tumbes. These are two locations I’ve been meaning to add to our current list of Karikuy tours, in the coming weeks you can expect to see these and other tours added to our tour catalog.

My thoughts before embarking on another Tariy road trip are mixed, Peru is a wonderful place to explore and I am sure I will meet many new exciting people and places. On the other hand the trip will be physically exhausting and dangerous and some points. Extensive travel in the highlands during this time of year (the wet season) is not recommended as road conditions deteriorate and mudslides become common.

I can only hope for the best, wish me luck and I hope you stay tuned to keep up with the trip, I will try to post updates every other day when possible.
