Discover the Unexplored Tacna Region of Peru

One of the lesser known regions of Peru is Tacna. It is the southernmost province of Peru and is also famous for being the most patriotic region in the entire country.

With a mild desert climate, the region is a great place to visit all year round. Tacna became a part of Peru in 1929 and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean. Though it is a small region, it has diverse climates, eco-regions and landscapes. Tacna is also one of the most important mining and agricultural areas in Peru. Its history dates back to the prehistoric times and its towns and villages are dotted by colonial churches and buildings.

Some of the most interesting places to visit in Tacna are the Battle of Tacna monument, the Miculla Petroglyphs in the Pachia district and terraces in Tarata. The region has often been in news because of a dispute with Chile but politics aside, it is a great place to visit and escape tourists in popular destinations of Peru.

When in Tacna, make sure that you eat the cuy the way it is prepared there. The cuy is a small animal that is specially cooked whole in Peru and adjoining regions. Tacna region is also known for its wines and liquors. There is nothing better than being able to enjoy these little pleasures of life and make sure that you have a great time when you are there.
