There are legends and then there are myths. There are also poems and novels. And then there are novels and stories that are inspired by Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and it is also the largest in South America. This beautiful lake has inspired thousands of artists and writers over the millennia. Today, it is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Peru.
While all this may be good for Peru, you might feel crowded when you go on a package tour to Lake Titicaca. A better and calmer way to view the lake from a distance is by visiting Llachón. Llachon is a small village located in the peninsula of Capachica. This is about 75 kilometers from the city of Puno. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake and can also hike around and just soak in some nature.
The village is sparsely inhabited and you will not have trouble dealing with multitudes of tourist and their children. If all that you were looking for was a place to sit around, soak in the beauty of nature and be mesmerized by the depths of Lake Titicaca, you should just be heading towards Llachon.
Karikuy organizes a tour specifically to Llachon and this is a full day trip. You will visit Puno, Lake Titicaca and Uros Islands. With guided tours, hotel transfers and transportation by boat included in the fee, what’s not to like? Prices start at $199. Click here to learn more about this tour.
