Both teams hold the top spots with 6 points to their name in group 4 and should be a great match to watch as the winner will make in on to the knockout round of Americas most prestigious cup competition, comparable only to the Champions League in Europe. Since 1928, the bitter feud between the two biggest clubs in Peru has claimed heart felt wins and devastating losses on both fields. The battle for the best soccer team in Peru has claimed many lives in the process due to the violent nature of the sport in South America, but nowhere else in the world is the passion for such a sporting event the same then as in the fields of Matute and el Monumental in Lima. That is where in the next 2 weeks the ultimate battle will be fought to declare the Champion of the 2009 Futbol Season in Peru. Both teams have only victory on their minds as each will play on their home field once for home and away matches to crown this years Champions.

Playing For Nothing But Pride
Peru find themselves bottom of the South American World Cup qualifying group, and although they have already been eliminated from World Cup contention, they will be hoping to cause a major upset in Buenos Aires. Jose Del Solar, the coach of Peru, is well aware that his side have to be very cautious of Argentina, and because of this he has named only a single striker in his attack.

September 12th through the 14th, Sophie, Tim, and I took a much needed weekend getaway. As new and exciting as Lima is, I definitely miss fresh air and the sunshine that’s hidden by the constant cloud cover that hangs above the city. So the three of us took a bus south of Lima and into Peru’s desert.
The juxtaposition of climate and geography in Peru is incredible. You have urban areas, desert, ocean, mountains, and jungle all right next to each other. Needless to say, to a girl used to growing up in the suburbs and cornfields of the midwest of the United States, the scenery on the bus ride was incredible.
