Amazing doesn't even begin to describe our trip to Machu Picchu or our experience with Karikuy. From the minute we started planning our trip Julio did an excellent job of working with us to make sure that our trip was everything we wanted it to be. Machu Picchu has been a place I had dreamed of going to for years and with the help of Karikuy it was even better than I imagined. Everything was taken care of for us from beginning to end and it was great to know that we were in good hands along the way. The Jungle Trail package was fantastic and I can't imagine a better way to experience Peru and arrive at Machu Picchu. Karikuy helped us pick the very best way to see Peru and ensured wonderful memories for years to come. If I ever have the chance to go to Peru again I will definitely use Karikuy again. As winner of the 2010 Karikuy Machu Picchu Contest, I was lucky enough to visit Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu with my sister on our very first trip abroad together! Karikuy coordinated all of our transfers, lodging, domestic flights on Peruvian Airlines, tour admissions, PeruRail train rides and English-speaking guides, relieving us of all the typical logistical stresses of traveling. Julio, Oscar, Marco and Wilfredo provided fascinating insights about Peruvian history, culture and landmarks during our guided tours, and we appreciated the thoughtful itinerary, an ideal mix of planned activities with other travelers and free time to explore on our own. We will remember always our first sips of coca tea and Inca Kola, stumbling onto the Festival of the Lady of the Nativity in Cusco Plaza de Armas, our pursuit of the perfect Pisco Sour and the winding Urubamba River in Sacred Valley. Best of all, Machu Picchu truly is a new wonder of the world; seeing the ancient citadel in all its architectural splendor, from the precise masonry and green terraces to the sacred llamas and ethereal mountain views, was a profound and magical adventure of a lifetime. As the winner of the 2011 Karikuy contest, I was given the opportunity to hike the Jungle Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and it was easily one of the greatest travel experiences of my life! I have backpacked all over Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia, but this one week in Peru managed to pack in every emotion, experience, and encounter one hopes to have after months on the road. Mountain biking! Whitewater rafting! Zip-lining! Hot springs! And let's not forget hiking deep into the jungle, losing your breath as you go up into the mountains (from the exercise and from the scenery) and then running down into the valleys where ruins and rapids await. Julio took care of everything for me ahead of time (including my vegetarian meals!), which took out a lot of the guess work. And my guides during the trek were knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and most of all, fun! I have made friends for life and Peru has stolen my heart. Fanks Karikuy! |
THE GRAND PRIZE
CONTEST RULES
1. You must be 13 years of age and older to participate. Minors will have to be accompanied by a legal guardian. |
2. Twitter follows, Facebook likes and Google+ adds must be submitted to us before 12:00 AM EST March 1st, 2012. |
3. To be entered in Grand Prize all participants must have added us on the 3 social networks and tweeted our message, no exceptions. |
4. Karikuy has the right to disqualify any person(s) who we deem are misrepresenting our contest or do not follow the guidelines herein. |
5. Winners have until December 31, 2012 to redeem his/her prizes, regardless of the end of the world. |
6. Karikuy has the right to use the winners likeness and use all statements and testimonials in the manner we see fit. |
7. Winner must agree and sign our Trip application to receive his/her prize. |
8. Scheduling of Grand Prize is to be determined between winner and Karikuy. Prize not legible during holidays (international and national) |
9. Contestant will participate in the Karikuy-Haugen Fund by accompanying an Inca Trail Porter and blogging about the experience. |
10. Winners will be announced on March 5th, 2012. |
