Day 1 |
You arrive in Lima in the afternoon. After your reception you have the option of taking a nap after the long flight or you can head out with the rest of us to the main square for some sightseeing and shopping. In the evening the night is yours, giving you a chance to taste some of Peru's drinks and to get to know Limas' nightlife. |
Day 2 |
In the morning you fly to Cusco, the capital city of the ancient Inca Empire. You head out on a tour of the city early in the afternoon. You'll have a chance to visit the Temple of the Sun and the Sacsayhuaman fortress overlooking the city. You'll also visit the main church in the Plaza de Armas, a jaw dropping sight as the interior is covered in gold and silver. At night Cusco lights up and dancing and drinking is the norm. |
Day 3 |
Today you head outside the city of Cusco and take a tour of the surrounding area of the Sacred Valley. There are many sites to see so please specify the locations you wish to visit. The default tour includes, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Urubamba and Chinchero. However it's also possible to see the ruins of Moray or the salt flats of Maras. Transportation is by bus and the overnight is in Cusco. |
Day 4 |
Your picked up from your hotel in the morning and take a private bus to Abra del Malaga (13,050ft), 150 km from Cusco, there we start our biking going down around 80 km until you reach "Santa Maria" which is 230 km from Cusco. On the bike ride down you get to experience the changes in microclimates as you descend from 12,900 ft to 4,290 ft, where the weather is warm and humid. On the way you will see the snow capped peaks of Veronica as well as pass several rapids. Reaching Santa Maria you are now in the high jungle, bright fauna surrounds you. You overnight in Santa Maria. |
Day 5 |
Today you follow an Inca pathway as the day consist of hiking among the jungle where you will be surrounded by fruit trees, mighty rivers and exotic animals of the area. It is possible to see monkeys and other jungle animals on this trail. You then come across the hot springs of Ullumire, here it is possible to relax and take a hot bath. Nearby is Santa Teresa(5,700 ft), where you will spend the night. |
Day 6 |
Nature, adventure and excitement make up the third day of trekking to Machu Picchu. This day will be a little different from the others, with 5 hours of trekking, and adrenaline. You will have the chance to zip through the air crossing rivers on cable cars as well as hike through Oroyas (colorful cacti) on your way to Aguas Calientes where you will spend the night. |
Day 7 |
This morning you wake up early to board one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu. Once up at the ruins you'll catch a beautiful sunrise over the site, your then given a tour of the ruins. Afterwards you have the option of climbing to the peak of Wayna Picchu or exploring the maze of ruins throughout the site. In the late afternoon you catch the train back to Cusco for the nights festivities. |
Day 8 |
In the morning you depart Cusco and fly back to Lima. We then catch an afternoon bus to Ica, about a four hour bus ride through the colorful desert. We arrive in the evening at the Huacachina Oasis, about 10 minutes from Ica. Here you will lodge for the night. You have the option of climbing the massive dunes to catch sunset or you could rent dune buggies and head out for some late sandboarding (Not Included, $15). |
Day 9 |
It's only another 2 to 3 hours to Nazca, our next destination. We arrive in the early afternoon and set off for the city tour after checking in to your hotel. The Nazca City tour consists of visiting the small museum and the surrounding lines via observation towers. You have the evening free to explore the many eateries and nightlife. |
Day 10 |
Today we'll have a light breakfast and meet your pilot at the Nazca Aerodrome. The flight over the famous Nazca lines only takes about a half hour, but it is unforgettable. Make sure you take any motion medication before boarding as the small plane maneuvers can make you a bit queasy. After the flight we head back to Lima via bus, at night we toast and dance the night away to your last couple of hours in the city of kings. |
Day 11 |
Depending on the hour of your return flight home you have the option to get some last minute shopping in or being driven to the airport to catch your flight home. That concludes The Mysteries of Peru Grand Tour. Hope you have fun! |
