Awamaki
From Perupedia
Awamaki is a small NGO based in Ollantaytambo, Cusco, Peru. They run a weaving project in the indigenous Quechua community of Patacancha, located in the mountains high above Ollantaytambo. Tapping the Quechua weaving tradition for its international marketability, Awamaki aims to empower young impoverished indigenous women to participate in a modernizing economy in a way that allows them to maintain their culture.
