Iperú, Tourist Information and Assistance, or simply iperú (with lowercase) /IPA: [ɪpeˈɾu]/ is the free tourism office provided by the Peruvian government through the Commission for the Promotion of Export and Tourism Peru (Comisión de Promoción de las Exportaciones y el Turismo del Perú, Promperú) and the National Institute for Defense Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intellectual, INDECOPI), where both domestic and foreign tourists can obtain objective and impartial information on destinations, attractions, routes, travel times and registered companies that provide tourism services and to obtain assistance in case of any problems arise during the trip or if the tourist services were not provided according as hired. Iperú is responsible for handling claims submitted by national and foreign tourists against the suppliers of tourism services, with powers mediating and conciliatory (but not punitive) to solve them. Operators of iperú talk English, and some operators know languages.
iperú provides a useful service for tourists, producers and researchers who travel for various reasons before, during or after their visit to Peru, as they have a comprehensive database of registered services in the country, as well as information from place, attractives, and, sometimes, little known details about the country.
Despite being part of a public organization, iperú opens all around the week, including Sundays, holidays and during strikes.
Normally, local offices of the national tourist office are named as the city where they are located, for example, iperú office in Iquitos, (Peruvian Amazon), is called iperú Iquitos or the office located in Chachapoyas is called iperú Chachapoyas.

History
Through a cooperation agreement between Promperú and Indecopi (June 24, 1994) established the Tourist Protection Service (Servicio de Protección al Turista, SPT), which is iperú, Tourist Information and Assistance, to be today. Through this agreement INDECOPI gives to the new bureau its functions of the Consumer Protection Commission (Comisión de Protección al Consumidor, CPC) to procedure in cases against tourism companies.
In 2001, noting the need for objective tourist information to visitors in order to prevent adverse incidents and improve the services provided by SPT, it was decided to add the Tourist Information Service (Servicio de Información Turística, SIT).

Achievements
- During 2007, iperú handled 287,492 cases both requests for information and assistance, in all over Peru.[1]
- By using the phone line 24 / 7, (511) 574-8000, iperú operators have been able to save the lives of national and foreign tourists, an example is the case of the Belgian couple of climbers: Julia Snihur and Renaud Ginion of 25 and 35 years respectively[2], who lost in the snow of Chopicalqui in Huaraz. After a week of intense searches they were located because they called for help iperú using a satellite phone, facilitating the work of Peruvian rescue teams[1]. The climbers said that they had not a mountain guide and they were not enrolled in the control booths to entering the mountains of the Cordillera Blanca, which hampered the search.

Also, local offices of iperú, tourist information and assistance, installs modules of tourist information on events or places with large influx of visitors and foreign nationals, such as the celebration of the Inti Raymi in (Cusco) or the Patronal Feast of Saint John in Iquitos in the Peruvian Amazon.
