Biography

Josué Méndez studied Film and Latin American Studies at Yale University, USA, graduating in 1998. He has written and directed several short films, which have been shown at major international festivals (in Oberhausen, Tampere, Huesca, Sao Paulo, and Bilbao, among others). Dias de Santiago was Méndez's first feature film, about a cab driver in Lima who is haunted by his past in the Peruvian military. [1][2] The film was Peru's official selection for the 2005 Academy Awards, and won more than 35 international awards.[3] In 2005, Dioses was chosen to be part of the L'Atelier project organized by the Cannes Film Festival for works in progress. [4] During the making of Dioses, Méndez also benefited from the guidance of British director Stephen Frears as part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.[5]

Over the years, Méndez has worked in advertising, films, theater and television for Peruvian and foreign producers, and has worked as an editor of feature films and short films for other directors. In 2006, he served as secretary of the Peruvian Society for Audiovisual Industry (SPIA).[6] Also in 2006, supported by twelve producers of Peruvian national cinema, Méndez launched the 'Peru Pantalla' campaign to evaluate the government's financial support for the industry.[7]
