Luis Valdivieso Montano

Luis Valdivieso Montano is a Peruvian economist and politician. He is an ex-official of the International Monetary Fund and is the current Minister of the Economy and Finances under president Alan Garcia.

He graduated as an economist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and obtained his doctorate from the University of Boston. Subsequently, he worked in the IMF for 30 years, although during the government of Alberto Fujimori he advised the then minister Carlos Boloña.

Luis Valdivieso, renounced to his post as Minister of Economy and Finances on January 19, 2009 and he was appointed as the new Ambassador of Peru to the United States by February 17, 2009 and he was installed in Washington, DC by March 3, 2009.

Luis Valdivieso is the son of the football goalkeeper Juan Valdivieso ("El Mago") who played on the Peru national football team during the Berlin Olympics in 1936.
