The National Police of Peru (Spanish: Policía Nacional del Perú) is the national police force in Peru with important land, sea, and air forces and 140,000 troops. It is the primary law enforcement agency of Peru with jurisdiction covering the entirety of the nation. It is one of the biggest police forces in Latin America. It was founded in 1988. Prior to 1988, there were three national police forces in Peru, the Investigative Police of Peru, the Civil Guard, and the Republican Guard.
There are several divisions in charge of different specialties such as DINOES (Special Operations), DINANDRO (Anti-Narcotics Unit), DININCRI (Criminal Investigations), DIRCOTE (Anti-Terrorism), etc.
