There is also a 4 Day Salkantay Trek available for $399 per person. The four day trek is only recommended for travelers who are very physically fit. The full 5 day trek is shortened to 4 days meaning more hours spent hiking each day. Both treks runs year round.

Day 1
In the early morning (4AM) your guides will arrive at your hostel/hotel to begin your trek. Your transportation passes the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo and 3 hours after you arrive at Mollepata. At this point we'll have breakfast.

Afterwards we will begin the Salkantay trail hiking through incredible scenery until Sayllapata where lunch awaits us and you can enjoy a brief rest. The group then continues between green and beautiful landscapes until Soraypampa, Here you will enjoy a delicous dinner and camp for the night (trek time: 6 - 7 hours).
Day 2
After a filling breakfast. We begin trekking for the day. Today wll be one of the most difficult days of the trek as you climb to the Pampas of the Salkantay glacier. Here you will enjoy views of the snowy majestic Salkantay and Umantay at an elevation of 4.650 meters above sea level.

As you continue the trek you will arrive at Huayracpampa where we there are further impressive views of the area, here we'll have lunch. After lunch we'll continue the trek, observing how changes in altitude affect the ecosystems of the trail. The trek continues until Collpa Bamba where we will set up camp for the second night. Dinner is served and you have time to rest and catch up with your group members. (trek time: 8 hours approximately).
Day 3
You begin the day with gorgeous views of a new landscape, as well as climate as the temperatures begin to warm as you descend into the high jungle. The group is risen at 6:00 a.m. for breakfast. Todays route will take your through high jusngle valleys where you will be able to see a wide diversity of birds, insects, and other animals from the area. We will also have the opportunity to see the local customs and daily life of the people from the area as we get closer to Aguas Calientes.

Your decsent will let you experience the beautiful geography of the area, small canyons and waterfalls until you arrive at the small town of Playa. By this time you are now surrounded by jungle vegetation. From the town of Playa we will take a local bus to Santa Teresa town where you will be able to enjoy the hot springs, a shower and even a beer. Here we will have dinner and call it a night. (trek time: 5 hours)
Day 4
After breakfast we will continue our trek as we approach the Hydroelectric (power plant), this part of the trek is known as the waterfall day where we will pass many cascades, one falling from 45 meters above us. Once we reach the power plant we will rest and have lunch. Afterwards we have about a 3 hour hike as we we reach our final destination today: Machu Picchu Pueblo also known as Aguas Calientes (At the foot to citadel of Machu Picchu). We arrive here at 5.30pm approximately.

For this last section, there is optional transport that is not included in the program. If travelers are very tired and do not want to walk the three hours, you have the option of taking the train at 3pm from the Hydroelectric station. This train costs $20 and is subject to availability, the train ride takes one hour.

At Aguas Calientes you will be transferred to your Hostel for the night. You have the evening free to explore the busy town.
Day 5
Today the group is woken up at 4:30AM to have enough time to climb the steep path to Machu Picchu Sanctuary the hike lasts about 1 and a half hours. Upon entering the citadel you will enjoy an unforgetable sunrise and be among the first travelers to arrive at the ruins for the day. Afterwards your guided tour of the ruins begins, here you will visit the various landmarks within Machu Picchu, the tour lasts for 2 hours. You will then have the remainder of the day to wander freely, relax, take photos, walk and also climb up to Huayna Picchu (separate admission, $15), or just stroll to the Intipunku or the Inka's Drawbridge.

Ater a full day at the ruins we hike back down to Aguas Calientes. Another alternative is to buy a bus ticket (not included, $10 dollars) back down to Aguas Calientes. Your train schedule to Ollantaytambo will be announced by your guide. (These could be 6:45pm, 7:00pm or another schedule depending on availability for the Expedition Train) At Ollantaytambo you will have comfortable tourist buses waiting to take you back to Cusco.

Arriving in Cusco you will be either taken to the main Plaza de Armas located centrally among all hotels or depending on amount of passengers taken to individual hotels. This concludes the Salkantay Trek with Karikuy Tours Peru.
