Day 1 |
You arrive in Lima in the afternoon. After your reception you have the option of taking a nap after the long flight or you can head out on a walking tour of the historical center of the capital. In the evening the night is yours, giving you a chance to taste some of Peru's drinks and to get to know Limas' nightlife. |
Day 2 |
Today you head to Ica, taking the 4 hour drive through the desert coast. you will pass several small towns and enjoy wonderful scenery as you drive along the soast with the pacific on your right and the mountainous desert on your left. We arrive in Ica in the early afternoon and are transported to your hotel in the tranquil Huacachina oasis. In the afternoon we head out in dune buggies, our destination; the summits of some of the highest dunes on the planet. We spend the afternoon sandboarding, catching a brilliant sunset on the massive sand dunes. |
Day 3 |
It's only another 2 to 3 hours to Nazca, our next destination. We arrive in the early afternoon and set off for the city tour after checking in to your hotel. The Nazca City tour consists of visiting the small museum and the surrounding lines via observation towers. However nothing beats flying over the Lines to get the full view and an idea as to just how massive in size these drawings are. After the overflight you will have a chance to visit Cahuachi (bus schedule permitting), a ceremonial complex dating back to 300 BC. In the evening you take the overnight bus drive to Arequipa. |
Day 4 |
You arrive in Arequipa in the morning and have the chance to rest a little more or explore the city before leaving for the City Tour in the early afternoon. During the City Tour you'll visit the Mirador de Yanahuara; a lookout spot where you can take pictures of the city with El Misti in the backgroun,. The Plaza of Paucarpata; a rural suburd with a pleasant country feel, el Molino de Sabandia; a granary from 1785 that is buil out of volcanic ash, La Plaza de Armas; Arequipas' Main Square and el Monasterio de Santa Catalina; a huge beautiful brightly colored monastary still used by the nuns. After the tour you have the evening free to check out the nightlife or rest up for the following day. |
Day 5 |
You leave Arequipa at areound 8 in the morning and head towards the north-west behind snow-covered Chachani and Yura, small valley with thermal springs. Along the way there is a chance to see wild vicuñas in Pampa Cañahuas national reserve, Alpacas & llamas in Tocra, some birds like flamingoes, ibis, andean gooze, ducks and the andean eagle. You will also pass a view point where there are some beautiful Volcanoes and snow covered mountains in Patapampa (15,000ft.). In the afternoon you reach Chivay Capital of the valley and where you will overnight. |
Day 6 |
After breakfast you leave for the Cross of the Condor. Along the way you pass beautiful towns, like Yanque & Maca, colonial churches, and see many peruvians who still wear tipical needlework dresses. You'll pass hundreds of pre inca terraces still in use with andean staples like corn, qinua, and kiwicha (Amaranto). Reaching the Cross of the Condor you will be on top looking down into the deepest canyon in the world, nearly twice as deep as the grand canyon. Here you can spot several condors in full flight. The rest of the afternoon consists of driving back to Arequipa, stopping along the way to visit sites of interest such as colonial churches. In the evening you say goodbye to Arequipa as you take an overnight bus to Cusco to continue your adventure. |
Day 7 |
In the morning you arrive in Cusco, the capital city of the ancient Inca Empire. You head out on a tour of the city at noon. You'll have a chance to visit the Temple of the Sun and the Sacsayhuaman fortress overlooking the city. You'll also visit the main church in the Plaza de Armas, a jaw dropping sight as the interior is covered in gold and silver. At night Cusco lights up and dancing and drinking is the norm. |
Day 8 |
You begin our trip to Machu Picchu this morning. Driving through the serene Sacred Valley of the Incas, you'll visit some ruins as well as make a stop at a market for those that wish to purchase souvenirs. Your road trip takes you to the town of Ollantaytambo, here you'll check out the massive ruins before catching a train to the tourist town of Aquas Calientes beneath the ruins of Machu Picchu, here you'll spend the night. |
Day 9 |
This morning you wake up early to board one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu. Once up at the ruins you'll catch a beautiful sunrise over the site, your then given a tour of the ruins. Afterwards you have the option of climbing to the peak of Wayna Picchu or exploring the maze of ruins throughout the site. In the late afternoon you catch the train back to Cusco for the nights festivities. |
Day 10 |
In the morning you board a plane back to Lima. Depending on the hour of your return flight home you have the option to get some last minute shopping in or being driven to the airport to catch your flight home. That concludes The Pachamama Tour. Hope you have fun! |
